We Didn't Get Green Drawstring Bags

So, it's that time of the year.
Freshman Orientation.

And it's funny to actually be here to see it happening. To see all of the kids who just graduated from high school a few days ago walking around the Johnson Center looking very confused as to where the bathroom is (there's two per floor) and the Orientation Leaders answering the questions of the parents who just want to make sure their kids are going to be okay here. And of course, they're holding their group's number so that no one gets lost.

But I think what I like the most is that most of these kids get what is about to happen in a few months. They get to be treated like little adults. They get to be free for the most part and not have to check in with Mom and Dad and they probably won't have a curfew after week 2 of classes and they'll get to learn more about who they are and what's going on in the world around them. And they get to do it 20 minutes from D.C. so they'll go into the city a few times and meet some cool people who will become some of their best friends and in four years, they'll be really upset about leaving but they'll know that they'll have tons of pictures on Facebook and plenty that they can't share because their Mom is on Facebook now too. And she'll calle very once and a while and check up and see how the first day of classes went and they'll be really excited to tell her about COMM 100 and how the professor stood on the table or how their ANTH 114 professor is a total nut - but in a good way. And how they have to buy hundreds of dollars worth of text books that don't belong to the school and they'll be able to keep them after the class is done if they want. And they're just really scared and nervous about everything that is about to happen, because for some of them - this is the first time they've ever moved and it's the first time they'll get to truly be themselves and deal with all the beautiful and ugly things associated with it.

Group 9 just walked by the Info Desk and I think group 8 is hanging out on the 3rd floor. Their Group Leader just told someone how to get to the bathroom I think.

They put a big sign up by the statue that says "Class of 2013". I don't remember us getting one of those. We just signed the bench, but I guess the benches aren't happening this year because they're fixing SUB II. One O.L. just yelled at a group of other O.L's for grouping up I guess. LOLZ. The Class of 2013 sign makes me feel really really really old. REALLY OLD.

And I love how excited teh O.L.s are about Mason. They have yellow shoes on and big flowers in their and their jewlery is Mason colored. ...here's a question - where were you for my four years year? Our lack of spirit is upsetting and it cracks me up that it only comes out when we have guests. These kids are being so mislead about the school spirit thing. I love it.

I can remember my orientation so well. The fact that the key i was given was to a storage room in the park. It was full of pillows and sheets. And I had to go find someone who I assumed worked for housing. Funnily enough - she also checked me out of my dorm a few weeks ago. Full circle. And the guys on my floor ordered pizza. I can't remember hanging out with any of them after orientation, but I can remember when we all got seperated into our majors. And I was marketing at the time and Mom asked really awkward questions at the Marketing info session in the Bistro and I was really embarressed. Just like I am with most of the things she does. I think that was the most time she spent on campus...

Connie met Mary at orientation and they're still really good friends. And Alex said he can remember seeing me at oriention doing this dance at the benches between Fenwick & SUB II. Austin said he saw me showing someone my tattoo.

I just called Connie and she reminded me of the mini freak out we had during the O.L.'s awkward skit in which we asked each other if we really thought this was the right place for us. Four years later - I guess it was.

I just hope that these kids have as great of a time as I did at Mason.
That's my main thing.

And I hope they don't have another drag queen homecoming queen.
I want that all to myself.

I've sat in the Johnson Center for more hours in the past two weeks than I had in my entire four year career at Mason. It's such a different place when there's no one in the food court and all the food places are closed. And no, I wasn't describing a normal Saturday. The summer time makes the place different. It's so calm.

I've applied for four jobs in the past 3 days, which is more than I applied for in the entire second semester of my senior year. It's weird because I know what I want to do but I know that I can't wait much longer to get a yes or a no from the Mouse. I'm just really uneasy right now because so many of my friends have gotten things in order. Lauren's in Richmond, Steph's in DC, and Nora's heading to NYC in a week. And I'm sitting in the JC. Freezing because Mason doesn't know how to regulate air temp in this building. When I say I'm freezing, I mean I wish I was in an igloo - it'd be warmer.

I'm also really nervous about moving away. I want to get away - I mean, I need an adventure. But I'm not sure how big I want it to be. I've applied for jobs in Florida, Arizona, and Maryland. And I debated about applying for one in Texas for about an hour but talked myself out of that one. I'm just not sure where to go from here. Or how to get there. And I want at least one of the companies I've applied to to just give me a simple "no" so I can cross them off the list and not sit here (in the JC), and wait for their answer. Or non-answer.

So, after a very long and exhausting week, I'm home from my graduation trip to Walt Disney World. It was so much fun being able to share something as important as WDW with my friends, who know I'm out of my mind, but I think understood why when we were there. It was so great to pretend to be kids for just five days - meeting characters, eatting food that probably has no nutritional value, and just generally acting retarded.

I auditioned for a character performer position and passed the audition, however, they do not currently have a spot for me so I've been put in the casting pool for six months. I'm not too worried, however, since I wouldn't be able to start until August anyway due to school (which, p.s., I need to do some reading for).

Now back to the real world.

On Graduation

It has come. Well - almost.
I mean, it's close enough that I can taste it.
College graduation.
The pomp.
The circumstance.
The caps.
The gowns.

And I'm so sad and nervous and scared and happy and all of these emotions that I don't even know how to word properly.

I'm not good at goodbyes.
I suck at them. I hate them.
And what I hate the most is that I know that some of these goodbyes really are goodbyes.
Some of these people that I've shared four years with won't be part of my life anymore.
From Cat, Laurel, and Howard in the costume shop to the Sandra's in the J.C. and Danielle in SUB I, Ms. DD in Ikes.
Saying goodbye sucks, especially when you know that it really might be for real.

And my friends, who I've spent what seems like every waking moment with during our four year adventure, we're all going our seperate ways which is really upsetting because I want to be able to call someone and see if they want to go to Chic-Fil-A for the twenty-seventh time this week. All of the memories we've shared, it's going to be hard to get a new group of friends who are as zanny, comical, level-headed, honest, rude, and great as these people have been. I know how they've changed me and I hope that I've been able to help them grow somewhat too.

I also really wish my dad could be here.

To Do: This Summer

I usually make lists and don't follow through with them, but I'd really like to do as many of these as possible.

TO DO:
- go to New York City
- go to Hershey Park
- spend a DAY (not a night) in Washington D.C.
- visit Busch Gardens to see Kevin & the Seasame Street characters
- oh, get a job.

Mason Day

My last Mason Day is 15 minutes away.

Not that I'm super excited about it - we got T-Pain - but it's sad. I remember every Mason Day from the past 3 years.

Freshman Year:
The Wailers - AND it was on 4/20. LOLZ
We were going to Julian's for a BBQ, but got off because we were naive and didn't understand the inner-beltway/outter-beltway traffic at 5:30 in the afternoon. We got off the interstate and Steph and Lauren peed on the side of the exit ramp. And then ran into a Wendy's.

There were carnival rides.

Sophomore Year:
Bone, Thugs 'n' Harmony with Naughty By Nature
Missy invited me to see The Killers. I'm glad I went to that instead.
I then met the boys in D.C. - they were in full drag.

We had an inflatable lazer tag that year.

Junior Year:
Gym Class Heros
Instead of going to the concert, we made a Jewish lady video blog.
It's still one of the funniest things in the world.

Senior Year:
T-Pain
I guess we'll find out - won't we?

It's just weird celebrating lasts, especially when I remember the ones from high school so well - ya know?
And I'm getting very emotional about everything.
Cause I guess I'm on my period...

I'm so tired right now.

Not sleepy tired - just really really exhausted. My brain may end up coming out of my ears soon.

The final four week stretch started today. Four more weeks until I walk. I graduate in July. But let's just say for the sake of conversation that I'm graduating in May. I did one of my final presentations tonight. I have one more next week, and a large paper the next week. And then - for the first time in my college career, I have a LEGIT final in every class. What's THAT about?

Also - I've been eatting my feelings recently.
And it's not a good thing.
At all.

Furthermore - this time last year, we were hanging out in the grass, basking in sunlight.
I have pictures to prove it.

If it rains one more day - I might cry.

College Life

Mtv's "College Life" is one of the lamest excuses of a college "reality" show I've ever seen. The show follows four freshman at the University of Wisconsin-Madison during their first semester/year. They record everything with a personal camcorder. There's no production crew following them around or anything like that - which is great. It's more honest than say - Real World. (However - with that said - the producers can easily twist footage and make situations look very different than they really are.) I have respect for these kids. Being famous, even for 15 minutes, can be exhausting (truse me - I know). But - I have some issues with "College Life".

1) There is NO diversity in this show.

There are four freshmen. Three of them are white. The one who isn't "white" is half white, and he grew up in a white neighborhood so he doesn't identify himself as black or otherwise. All four of them are heterosexuals. If I recall properly, only one of them mentioned getting an academic scholarship, which means most of them are slightly privledged financially. There are over 5,000 students at the University of Wisconson-Madison who identify as "minority" during the 2008/2009 Spring semester, 481 of them were Freshmen. Granted, I know we go to one of the most diverse universities in the country - but I never realized how much that has affected us as students. We're taught from day one that we're diverse and that we celebrate it. How different would you college experince be if you went to a university that was prodominatly one ethnicity, religion, gender - just one of something? I think I'd go crazy. By being at a diverse university - we're able to hear different stories and ideas from different cultures and backgrounds that can teach us more about what we're learning about. I know that in many classes I've been in - studnets have raised points based on their background and have taught the class, including the professor, a thing or two.

I think this show could be relatable to a wider range of high school and college studnets if there were differences in the characters.

2) The characters

I've met these people in my own world. Yes - there are always girls with boy issues, boys who drink in their dorm, and boys who don't have school spirit. However, couldn't we have found some other "types" of people? There are over 39,000 students at the University of Wisconson-Madison as of the 2008/2009 Spring semester. 2,647 of them were Freshmen. I'm sure there were some other interesting people at that school. There has to be.

3) Stereotypes:

I also feel that shows like "College Life" stereotype the college experience. Girls are expected to have boy problems from day one and boys fall into two categories:"frat guys" or "not frat guys". Everyone's expected to drink and to do so unsafely and everyone's expected to go to the big football game and pregame before that. And then, you'll get a call from home and you'll have to give bad news: you're failing a class/getting kick out of the dorm/you're pregnant. Or they give you bad news: your dog died/you have to pay tuition next semester/they're not proud of your grades/they remind you you're on a scholarship and you could lose it all and work in a low paying job (you can pick). I know these things really happen. They do. BUT - how many times have we seen that in movies or other t.v. shows? They are part of this "ideal" college experience. I know I speak for myself and most of my friends when I say that this isn't real. That isn't the college life.

4) Location, Location, Location

I'm sure that the University of Wisconson is a great school. However - it's one school. And it's one school that has a reputation. It has a "college town" vibe and the students are aware of where they are. Wouldn't this show have been more interesting if it showed DIFFERENT types of colleges? How cool would it have been to see four freshmen from four DIFFERENT schools? One from the East coast. One from the West Coast. One from the north-west and from the south-west. How much more could we have learned from each other and about other types of schools? Why not pick a univeristy like, I don't know, George Mason? I think some of the stuff that happened in the Park is a thousand times more interesting than seeing Alex cry about boys three weeks into her college career - not that it doesn't happen or make good t.v., but there's a lot more going on at a university than just parties and crying about boys.

5) Follow up show

Can we get a show called "Adult Life" following four recent college graduates as they attempt to find jobs in this economy and they end up moving back in with their parents and wait tables for six months. I'd tune in. Season premire - right after The Hills.

The point is - "College Life", to me, represents an idea of college that I never experinced. Do I feel gyped because of it? No. I'm so glad that I went to a university like Mason where things like drinking, boy drama, and big games (FINAL FOUR! WOO!) just happened, but didn't consume my life.

So - I haven't really written recently and I think I need to because it alwyas makes me feel better. And justified for some reason. I'm not sure why or what that's about, but anyway...

Friday was GMU's Drag Show & I cried. Like a baby. And I don't normally cry. And I especailly don't cry in front of people. So that was awkward. But other than the tears, I also recieved an award from a local "gang" of drag queens who told me how very proud of me they were. And it's pretty much the most touching moment - these performers who I've come to respect and have learned so much from - THEY were proud of ME. It melts my heart and makes me believe in the impact one person (whether in drag or not) can have on others. And when that impact is positive - it can create a world of good and positivity.

I'm 6 weeks away from seeing Mickey Mouse. And it's the most exciting feeling in the world. Granted, I still have two summer classes and won't be done til mid-July, but by being able to walk with my friends in my cap & gown - I feel like the two 100-level classes will fly by. I hope so anyway. I don't want to be here by myself - ya know? I mean, plenty of people have to take summer classes, so it won't be too bad...but still, I'm a social creature and that's part of the reason I decided not to stay for the extra semester. I'm glad I was able to figure that out.

The number of projects, presentations, and test I have left is starting to get into the single digits and that's pretty wierd. I don't know what I'm going to do with myself when I'm done with school - ya know? I've kept myself so busy, and kind of used school as an excuse for not doing things. I won't have that option come July. Unless I go to grad school, which may or may not happen.

So - this week, I need to apply for two jobs. I wish one of the jobs I applied for would get back to me for the simple fact that they are determing the date that I can start another job. I want to move to Orlando, but I'm not sure about the lack of practical benifits of me being there - i.e.; health care. I need to do more research in different places, but a lot of universities are looking for event coordinators and I think it would be nice to have a "regular" schedule, okay pay, and things like benifits.

Side note; I really miss working in a theme park. More than ever right now.

I'm in the midst of looking at photos from four years ago, and I must say, it's one of the most difficult things I've ever done.

I think what makes it the most difficult is that I can remember the stories behind the pictures. The moments between classes and trying to find parking and midterms and projects. And I think I'm crying because I'm so scared to leave this place and go to another adventure - I mean, I want to, don't get me wrong. But it's hard to try to put four years of feelings into roughly 50 days.

Spring Break doesn't count as I'll be working everyday.
But I guess I should get use to it as being an adult is going to blow.

1. "Stay" - Dave Matthews Band
I saw David Parson's Dance Company on Saturday at the Center for the Arts at Mason and their finale was a mix of DMB songs. This was in it and I can't get enough Dave Matthews right now. It's one of those great "chill out" songs, but the lyrics are really chessy and relate perfectly to my life right now. "Wastin' time. I'll sure miss this thing when it all rolls by..." Dave - you just summed up my Senior year in college.

2. "Chinese" - Lily Allen
Lily Allen's new album is very chill. I think she focused more on the lyrics and meanings of songs rather than making a "funky fun" type of album. "Chinese" is really sweet and chill (lets see how many times I can use that in this post). I also enjoy a good take out or delievery of Chinese food - Beef & Broc plz.

3. "Hello Seatle" - Owl City
I found Owl City on Pandora (pandora.com) after a few songs that also sounded like Postal Service. They, obviously, sound similar, but are slightly more positive. And I love them.

4. "It's All Right Here" - Hannah Montana
Don't be jealous that I get to jam out to Hannah on a regular basis. Or that I get paid to do so. The new movie's out soon. And I'm beyond excited.

Half way through Senior year, I feel like this kid, especially when he asks if this is real life. Kid, you'll probably be asking that your whole life. Especially when you tell your friends in college that you're the kid from the video. You'll be uber popular.

Jonas Brothers 3-D Experience opens today. I can't wait to find time to go and see a concert I've already seen. IN 3-D!

I'm glad that I'm the person in the group who takes control and makes sure that PowerPoints aren't ugly.

So, after the Washington Post article, interviews with most of the local media, and - oh, that's right, going LIVE on MSNBC, I must say that this is pretty exciting.

However - I (not Reann) keep getting Facebook Friend Requets.
And I reject most of them because, even though I know what I put online is in NO WAY private, my Facebook is more private than say my MySpace. Does that make me a freak?

I mean - MySpace is for connecting people via the internet. Facebook implies knowing someone's FACE.

I have to talk to a few more media folks in the next few days....

This is what my Spring Playlist makes me feel like

I'm currently working on my Springtime Playlist on iTunes.
It's 5.6 hours long right now - featuring about 95 of the most "Springy" tunes I have in my library.
I refound Dave Matthews and Ani DiFranco. I wonder what else will end up showing up.

I just took my 2nd test of the semester. This one in a class I don't care about all that much - Issues in PR.
I'm not totally sure why I'm a PR student. I'm honestly not all that interested in it. I'm sure I'll look back at this posting later in life and think "Wow - PR sure did me good!", but right now I don't get it. I also am not a huge fan of my professor. He's a genius - I think... He keeps talking about PR firms and the money we will / won't make in the next 3 to 5 years. Real good stuff. Especially for those of us who don't want to work for or anywhere NEAR a PR firm.

I hate high-strung Sophomores. I have two in my wedding planning group and they're acting as if we need to meet weekly to make this work. Um, hi girls - I could plan this fake wedding by myself with my eyes closed. Calm down.

Also - The Washington Post interviewed me yesterday about Reann's Ms. Mason win. It's kind of exciting, but I had a small panic attack since, I don't know, my mom doesn't know about Reann but she DOES know lots of people who read the Washington Post. Or I'd assume - since she knows people in the area. And I'm assuming they know how to read.

Also - connect2mason, our "online newspaper" of sorts has asked me to do a "day in my life" photo entry for them. Whether or not anyone wants to believe me - my life is not that exciting or interesting. I check Facebook more times a day than any human should. I also am a compulsive e-mail checker, even though I KNOW no one has sent me anything - important or otherwise.

Side note: I have 62 Photo Albums on Facebook.

So - my friend Isabel from Germany recently put up a TON of pictures from when she was in the states as an exchange student. That was 4 years ago. And I can't stop looking and crying at these pictures.

I'm less than three months away from Walt Disney World. I wish I could fast forward to the end of April so that I'll just have finals, weddings, and Mickey Mouse.

It's funny how vividly I can remember the moments before, during, and after I got the call that Dad died 9 years ago.

Like how Mom didn't want us to be at the house, because she knew.
And how horrible Aunt Sandi looked without makeup.
And how the trees were all covered with ice and snow on the ride down 64.
And how the cars circled the graveyard.

I was only 13 years old, and I had to grow up kind of quickly in those moments.

I miss him so very much and I hope, more than anything that he'd be proud of me.

Orlando was just the pick-me-up I needed.
Everytime I leave the parks, I feel 100 times better about everything and it makes me want to work harder to get where I want to be. I also realized while I was there that yes, I do want to do character work, but I would also love to do Guest Relations in the parks. I think I could do a really good job with it.

And plus - they were awesome outfits.

So - tomorrow's the big day! Obama's getting sworn in and the entire city of D.C. is about to explode with excitment. I'm debating going into the city to be part of history. I'm not sure if it's worth the headache though as I could watch from my couch. i also have to do some crazy costume stuff in 3 days since I took a week off to visit Mickey Mouse.

Wednesday is the first day of classes for my final semester...weird.

Winter Break

So, because neither of us are working next week - Kelly and I have decided to drive to Orlando, FL for a few days.

This is by far the most random and spontanious thing I've ever done in my life.

Hopefully soakin' up the sun and seeing some Disney characters will help me get out of this horrible funk I've been in.

We'll be looking at apartments, going to her castle - Margaritaville, and going to my castle - Disney World.

The drive is about 12.5 hours, but I'm sure we'll make plenty of ridiculous pit stops along the way. Like at South of the Border - I've never even driven past it. Also - I've never gone on a road trip this long.

I'm just very excited because I need to get away from Fairfax for a little bit.

2008: The Year of a Million Dreams

So, 2008 really was the year of a million dreams for me, but I've decided just to talk about 8 of them.

MY 8 MOST MAGICAL MOMENTS OF 2008:

1. Mickey & Minnie's visit in Richmond - July 2008

Being able to take these two around a children's hospital was by far the most amazing day of my life. I laughed, I cried, and I will never forget how many people were truly touched by their visit. It was even more amazing because I was able to get a sneak peek at what I want I truly want to do for the rest of my life.

2. The Spice Girls Concert - Feb. 2008

So after being a huge fan of the Spice Girls in 5th grade - I was finally able to see them in concert with some very good friends. The day after the concert, we met Baby Spice in Gucci.

3. Going to Disneyland - July 2008

Not that Disney World isn't my most favorite place in the world - but Disneyland is where it all started & being able to be there was beyond magical.

4. Figuring Out The School Thing - Oct. 2008

I figured I'd be in school an extra semester and have to be by myself for a few months at Mason. After a meeting with my advisor - I realized I only need to take two summer classes and then can get out of here!

5. Being A Princess on My 22nd Birthday - Oct. 2008

After joking about it for a while - my friends and I actually were Dead Disney Princesses for my 22nd Birthday / Halloween. We may not have won the costume contest (we lost to Michelle Obama), but I think we were one of the favorites of the night. And we got to flitz around like Princesses.

6. Celebrity Meet & Greets - Jan. - Dec. 2008

All year long, my job allowed me to have the chance to meet some awesome people who also happened to be famous. Raven was one of my favorites because she was so goofy. Corbin Bleu also ranks in the top as he was so chill about hanging out with us. And Genieve from Choo Choo Soul was beyond beautiful.

7. Enjoying My Jobs - Jan. - Dec. 2008

I get to hang out (work) with some of the most amazing people in the world. Their energy and passion for what they do is something that has inspired me during long shifts and hot shows and because of their friendships - I've been able to have more fun at work than ever before.

8. Relizations About Relationships - Jan. - Dec. 2008

So in 2008 I realized how lucky I am to have some of the best friends in the world. I've shared so many emotions with these folks that I didn't even know exsisted. But they do. And I'm very happy that I was able to share a large part of who I am with them and I'm happy they shared themselves with me too. I don't know who I'd be without them.

So - 2009 is going to be my year to celebrate.

I get to do something I've been dreaming about doing for a very long time tomorrow - I get to take two very special mice to a children's hospital here in Richmond.

There are no words to express how excited I am about the situtation.

However, I'm also very aware of the fact that I could have flashbacks to when Dad was in the hospital - granted, no characters visited him.

I've been thinking recently - it's funny the way that my life has been playing out recently. I've been doing that that I'd only dreamed of - visiting Disneyland and the Walt Disney Studios for example - things that make me so very thankful for being where I am right now in my life. And tomorrow I get to do what I want to do for the rest of my life.

I have many friends - and I do mean friends, not me speaking of myself as a "friend" - who don't totally get happiness. And it scares me. A lot.

I understand that not everyone sees sunshine and butterflies everywhere they look. I am very aware of that and respect peoples differences in how they live or see their life. What I do not respect is how when people ask for help or play the "my life sucks" card - and help or suggestions are offered, they don't accept the help. They would rather sit and wallow in self-pity. Don't get me wrong - a good pity party is always nice; but when the party doesn't have an end time on the invitation, it's draining on all the guests.

And sometimes, there's only so many parties you can attend.

We all have our issues to deal with - we all are a little mixed up and confused about life sometimes, but when a friend offers a helping hand - it's not for you to pull them into your pool of pity - but rather for them to help pull you out.

There's only so many metaphors I can make about the topic, but the point is - I am drained right now. There's only so many suggestions I can offer, questions I can ask, and "I'm sorry"s that I can pass out.

If you're not going to listen to a friends advice - then don't ask for it and don't invite them to your pool party.

Now I'm not going to Disneyland (that's in July), but I am going to Walt Disney World on Wednesday and I cannot wait. And whenver I mention my fasination with the company and the parks, some people question me. "Why?" And I guess - in all fairness - it's a good question.

Why would a 21-year-old be so very excited to meet Mickey Mouse for the 10th time? Why should a 21-year-old wait in a line surrounded by 4-year olds in princess gowns to meet Snow White?

The answer is simple - happiness.

I am beyond happy when I am in Walt Disney World. Not that other people aren't - far from it. I have some very important memories from WDW. For example - it's where I saw my dad smile even though he knew he was dying. It was where my mom and dad had their honeymoon and it was where we were able to forget that dad was sick for a week in April of 1999. Not only do I have those memories of Dad in the parks, but also Mom and Tyler in the parks - being carefree and happy. And I don't think I've seen anyone in my family as happy since then. Yes - we went in 2001 for Christmas and it was just as magical, but we had lost Dad and the sparkle that we all had had two years earlier was missing. And recently I was able to do a whirl-wind trip with Ernestine and Clayton - a memory that I hope I do not forget as I can now pride myself on saying I've done Disney in 17 hours. And now I get to go with a new group of people - a group of people who love Disney just as much as I do - if not more.

And even though I'm working for the company and I know how some of the magic happens - I don't care. I'm still an 8 year old when I see costumed characters and get autographs and pins and wear my Mouse ears.

I'm also asked sometimes "Why do you want to work for Disney?" and my answer is pretty simple - to be happy. I don't want a job where I don't want to go to work. I want to also make other people happy. I want to be able to do something that someone will remember for the rest of their lives.

I don't usually get very personal here - but I think I want to...

This is a video I was sent. It's a professor's "Last Lecture".
He's dying of cancer - the same kind my dad had.
The video is from Oprah and I think it's very powerful.

I sent the video to my mother & got this response from her:

"WOW!! hard to type thru the tears.....but I will tell u that is how Daddy and I lived the last year of his life...we had fun and realize the truly important things in life...your Dad was as strong and positive as this guy...I want u to know...Daddy never complained...never asked why me...and did any thing the doctors asked him to do ...he was so sad to think he would leave you and Tyler so young. He loved you very very much and would be so proud of you today and all you have accomplished and the wonderful goals you have and are achieving ..never doubt that. You were his #1 son..I can see him looking at you for the first time in the hospital....love at first site! Mom"

I tear up everytime I read her response. It's so hard to think that it's been so long since he's been out of our lives. It's so hard to remember his laugh when the last memory I have of him is sitting in that old, brown La-Z-Boy chair. It was snowing and Aunt Sandi took Tyler and I to her house. Mom knew that he was going to be going that weekend. She didn't want us there. I remember that phone call at Aunt Sandi's. It was the Super Bowl. And she came downstairs, in no make-up, which was akward, and was crying. She said Mom was on the phone. And she told us. She told us that Dad died. And that she was holding his hand and so was Aunt Terry. I don't show too many emotions other than happy, but right now I can't stop crying. And I miss him. Would he be proud of me? I ask myself that almost everyday and I hate that I have to ask myself that. But would he be?

I had to grow up pretty quickly when he got sick and died. And I remember when Mom called me and Tyler into their bed room and told us that Daddy was very sick and that he didn't have much time to live. And at the funeral I remember one of Dad's sisters crying really loudly. And then Tyler, Mom, & I each took a rose off of the spray. Then we put them in the nitche. And a message.

It's just so hard for me to rationalize how I feel since it's been so long.

He eats American flags - how does that make you feel?

So if I'm invited to one more "Vote for Stephen Colbert" group on Facebook, I swear to God that I'm going to go to his show and do something crazy - like jump on the set with printed-word shirt on and sparklers in my hair.

What scares me the most is that even though Colbert has removed himself from the race - plenty of young adults are going to vote for him. Granted - Homer Simpson gets a lot of votes too during any election. But I just wanted to share my greif with everyone and also urge everyone to pass along to friends how important the '08 election is. Our country is at a turning point right now. I don't know what we need - but I know it's not a comedian. Even though I'm sure he'd be a lot of fun to have in office, maybe as a mayor of L.A. or something though and not the president of our country.

Also - if you're not registered, do so.
If you have friends who aren't registered, get them registered.

The absentee ballot process sucks ass but do it.

I don't care who you vote for. I'm still not totally sure who I'm voting for even in the primaries - but please vote for an actual candidate - NOT someone from a TV show.

04) How to yell at people for being trife while portraying cartoons
05) How to watch and mimic dances from theme park shows
06) How to get fired. UP!

09) How to move like the animals & join their jam
10) How to be a drag queen (RTT Rere was born at KD?)
11) How to high kick
12) How to talk down to park guests without them knowing it

I'm very sad to see my time at Kings Dominion come to a close next Saturday.
It's been 4 very interesting, fun, and memorable years of my life.
Without it - I wouldn't know what I want to do with my life & I wouldn't know some of the most amazing people I've ever met.
